Baby’s first holiday: what to pack, what to expect, and how to enjoy it…
Published onYour first holiday with a baby is a big deal. It’s exciting, but also a little intimidating. You’re leaving the comfort of your home (where you know exactly where the wipes are) for a whole new environment with your tiniest travel companion in tow.
But don’t worry — we’ve got your back(side). With the right prep (and a few extra nappies), you can actually enjoy your first family trip. Here’s what to pack, what to expect, and a few tips to make the whole thing feel more fun!
A different type of holiday
Let’s be honest: travelling with a baby is less about “rest and relaxation” and more about “snacks and survival.” But it is special. You’ll make unforgettable memories — even if your beach book remains untouched and your normal fancy meal out happens via room service at 5:30 p.m.
Tip: Keep your itinerary light and baby-friendly. One outing a day is plenty. The rest of the time? Soak up the snuggles and the scenery (even if it’s from the hotel balcony while the baby naps).
Packing – we got it in the bag
Here’s what to bring when your packing list includes someone who can’t yet carry their own luggage…
- Nappies (Pack more than you think. Trust us.)
- Wipes (For everything: bottoms, faces, airplane tray tables…)
- Portable changing mat
- Nappy cream if you use it
- Disposable nappy bags
Tip: Pack Pura. At Pura we design our nappies to be super soft and comfy with no leaks, so they go the distance.
Feeding time
- Bottles, formula or pump supplies
- Bibs and burp cloths
- Favourite snacks and baby-safe utensils
- A spill-proof cup
Sleep in mind
- Travel cot or sleep-safe bassinet
- White noise machine
- Baby’s usual sleepwear and comfort items
- Monitor (if you’ll be in a separate room)
Clothes and carriers:
- 2–3 outfits per day
- Weather-appropriate layers
- Swim gear, sun hat, baby sunscreen (if 6+ months)
- A soft carrier or compact stroller
Tip: Pack a small “emergency outfit kit” in your carry-on.
Embrace the chaos
You might not get eight hours of sleep or a perfect sunset selfie, but you will get gorgeous moments: beachside giggles, stroller naps, sticky hands reaching for ice-cream.
The key is staying flexible and keeping a sense of humour. If things don’t go as planned (they rarely do), give yourself a break. You’re doing an amazing job.
Travelling with a baby is never perfect. But it doesn’t have to be. With the right mindset — and the right nappies — you’ll get through the spills, the detours, and the meltdowns. And who knows? You might even start planning the next trip on the way home.
Happy adventuring!
