Four fun facts about spring babies
Published onSpring is a joyful time of new life and fresh promise — who doesn’t love the return of flowers, light, and warmth after the cold, darker days of winter?
If your baby is due this spring, it’s an extra special time for you! You can look forward to enjoying sunnier days and longer evenings with your precious new bundle. Of course, all babies are special no matter when they arrive, but we thought it’d be fun to explore some fascinating facts that make spring babies unique…
Fact 1: Less likely to suffer from allergies
Even though many people get hay fever in spring, babies born in spring and summer are actually less likely to develop allergies than those born in autumn or winter, according to a study by the University of Southampton. Researchers aren’t exactly sure why, but they believe it could be linked to sunlight levels, early exposure to allergens like pollen, or the timing of a baby’s first chest infection (since colds are more common in winter).
Fact 2: Who’s the boss?
If your little one shows a bossy streak, it might be because they’re born to lead! A study published in Economics Letters analysed the birth dates of 375 CEOs between 1992 and 2009 - and found that a higher percentage were born in March and April than in other months. Who knew?
Fact 3: You might have a night owl
You're probably bracing for some sleepless nights - most newborns aren’t big on letting you sleep through - but here’s an interesting twist: babies born in spring and summer may be more likely to stay up late. Researchers in Spain and Italy found a link between birth season and late-night tendencies. It can’t all be good news, right?
Fact 4: Forever sunny
According to Time magazine, children born between March and June tend to be happier and more optimistic throughout their lives. On average, spring-born kids score higher on the Hyperthymic scale — basically, a measure of optimism and high energy. This means they may be more likely to see the upside in life, even when things get tough.
In Summary…
If you believe the research, spring is a great time to welcome a happy, determined little human into the world - even if they do prefer staying up a bit later than you'd like! Plus, spring is a lovely season to get out and about with your newborn, meet other mums, and enjoy the fresh air.
