This season can be magical - snuggly blankets, tiny bobble hats, and endless excuses for cuddles. But while we’re busy embracing the cosy vibes, winter can be less gentle on your baby’s skin.
The cold weather means more layers, more central heating and often less nappy free time, leading to drier skin and more nappy rash. Here some top tips on how to keep that your baby’s skin soft and peachy all season long.
Don’t forget to moisturise
After bath time, pop on a gentle, fragrance-free, toxin-free moisturiser appropriate your little one’s age to lock in hydration. Think of it as wrapping baby’s skin in a snuggly blanket. Focus on cheeks, elbows, knees - anywhere that dries out quickly.
And speaking of baths… daily dips can dry out skin even more. Keep bath time to 2-4 times a week in winter. Warm water, lots of giggles - short and sweet.
Choose nappies wisely!
In winter, you’re less likely to allow your baby to play nappy free – it’s too cold. Choose nappies that are totally chlorine-free and toxin-free that are also breathable, soft and allergy certified to help prevent irritation and nappy rash. Soft, toxin-free wipes will also keep your baby clean without harsh chemicals that can dry or aggravate skin.
Top tips
-Make sure nappies aren’t too tight - airflow = happy skin
-Pat dry after a nappy change
- If the central heating is on, and the temp is warm enough - give some nappy-free time – perhaps after bathtime.
Face facts
Wind can turn chubby cheeks rosy red. If your baby’s cheeks are sore, apply a thin layer of baby-safe barrier cream to protect against windburn and - of course - drool before heading out.
Humidify Your Hideout
Indoor heating is lovely… but it dries out the air quicker you can change a nappy. A humidifier in the nursery adds moisture back, helping skin stay calm and hydrated overnight. Just keep it clean - no science experiments allowed.
Cotton clothes

Wool might be warm, but it’s often itchy on delicate and sensitive skin. Keep soft cotton as the base layer and add cosy fabrics on top. And if sleeves or collars get damp (drool strikes again), switch them out to avoid irritation.
Winter skin care can feel like another mini-mission on your parenting list - but you’ve got this. With toxin-free essentials, snuggly routines, and all the love you’re already giving, your baby will stay soft, comfortable, and happy - no matter how wild the weather gets.
If you spot:
-Dry, flaky patches
-Cracking or rough skin
-A spreading rash
-Baby looking uncomfortable
Gentle care, breathable nappies and wipes, and regular moisturising usually help. But if things get worse or won’t calm down, a quick chat with a health professional will point you in the right direction.
